Airway and Holistic Therapies

A holistic approach to orthodontics at Twin Teeth

At Twin Teeth Orthodontics, we take a comprehensive, holistic approach to orthodontic care—one that looks beyond just straight teeth. We understand that the health of your smile is deeply connected to your airway, facial muscles, posture, and overall well-being. That’s why we’ve created a practice that blends advanced technology with supportive therapies to help our patients—children and adults alike—thrive inside and out.

What Makes Up an Airway

Your airway includes your nose, mouth, throat, and the space behind your tongue. When this space is clear and balanced, you can breathe easily. This supports your sleep, focus, and overall health.

Proper vs. Improper Breathing

Nasal breathing keeps your jaw, tongue, and facial muscles in the right position for healthy growth. Mouth breathing, on the other hand, can lead to dental crowding, dry mouth, and even changes in facial structure over time.

How Breathing Impacts Sleep

If airflow is restricted during sleep, it can cause snoring, restless nights, and even sleep-disordered breathing. These issues often show up as tiredness, irritability, or trouble focusing during the day, especially in kids.

How Orthodontics Can Help

Orthodontic treatment doesn’t just straighten teeth, it opens the airway and support proper breathing. Expanders, aligners, and other treatments guide jaw growth and tongue posture to help both children and adults breathe better to help them sleep better.

Airway-Aware Orthodontics

Your airway health plays a critical role in how you sleep, breathe, grow, and feel. Our practice specializes in airway-focused orthodontics that aim to optimize breathing function and support long-term health. Whether we’re treating a young child with early signs of mouth breathing or an adult struggling with sleep-disordered breathing, our diagnostic process goes far beyond a standard orthodontic evaluation.

We offer a comprehensive approach which includes:

CBCT Imaging

to visualize the structure of the airway

Take-home sleep study

to assess sleep quality and screen for sleep apnea or related issues

With these tools, we create targeted treatment plans that not only align teeth and jaws, but also promote better sleep, improved oxygenation, and enhanced vitality.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can help resolve issues like mouth breathing, tongue thrust, improper swallowing, and low tongue posture—foundational habits that, when addressed early, can accelerate orthodontic results and prevent relapse.
